ABOUT CAMP AGAPE Hawaii

About Camp Agape

In 2006, Pastor Roy Yamamoto Jr. founded Camp Agape with a mission to break the cycle of incarceration that affects so many children. Unfortunately, even 20 years later, the heartbreaking statistic remains the same—80% of children with an incarcerated parent are likely to follow in their footsteps. But at Camp Agape, we are rewriting that story. Through love, guidance, and support, less than 5% of our “angels” go on to repeat the cycle of incarceration.

We take children off a path of destruction and guide them toward hope and purpose, helping them become positive role models for their families and communities. In February 2025, we will celebrate 17 years of this life-changing work. What started in Hawaii has now expanded across the United States with 6 additional locations operating independently, all modeled after the original Camp Agape

Why camp agape HAWAII?

In the United States currently, there are more than 800,000 incarcerated parents that have more than 1,800,000 children who are minors. In Hawaii, the child of an incarcerated parent is 50 percent more likely to be incarcerated as well. These statistics continue to increase and the role of Camp Agape is to reach these children and their parents – to see whole families transformed by God’s unconditional love.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER CAMP AGAPE?

Camp is just the beginning to a transformed life with Christ. As our resources grow, we will be able to provide more activities and events throughout the year that keep the children connected with their mentors, who love and encourage them. We also partner with other agencies and organizations that match our Angels with mentors to encourage them and build friendships with them. Part of the vision for Camp Agape Hawaii is the on-going Mentorship Program that is developing around Aquaponics Systems and a Smokehouse!

HOW CAN YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

As we prepare for next year’s Camp Agape, please partner with us. We cannot do this alone, so we ask for your help by financially partnering with us at any level you can. Camp Agape is free for every attendee; every child receives all the materials and supplies he or she would need during the course of the camp.
